Traditionally, inside a company, you want to be an insider. Close to the action, in the oak-panelled room, smelling the power. <SNIFF>.
You listen closely for the organizational narrative and make sure you always onside with the guy in the corner office.
These days, not so much…
Increasingly, there is more value at the edge of the organization. The edge worker is not stuck in the bubble of orthodoxy. She sees more clearly what’s around us, what’s coming up behind us.
The edge worker is more likely to be connected to external people, industry leaders, more connected into the zeitgeist, more in tune with what is happening in the emergent world.
The disorganizer embraces the idea: the edge is the new core.
