I want to work with people I trust and admire. I want to learn from them and also help them on their career path, where I can. I want to welcome a fellow traveler with a shake of the hand, … Continue reading I Am ALWAYS Hiring

We are hiring. There is a job description and an application process. Same old, same old. In it, though, is a link to a page full of drama and insight about the team and the role. If you read it, … Continue reading Reviewing 100+ Job Applications: This Much I Know
I recently read about Morioka Shoten Ginza, “a tiny bookstore of “a Single Room with a Single Book” in Tokyo. It sells only one book; more precisely, multiple copies of one title that changes weekly…” Wow. The bravado, the chutzpah! … Continue reading What Book Would You Sell In Your (Autobiography) Bookstore With A Single Book?
Aline Lerner attempted a meaningful investigation about the power (or not) of resumes recently – an excellent read. Resumes suck – and here’s the data, she says, concluding “at the end of the day, the resume is a low-signal document.” … Continue reading Working Out Loud Is A High Signal Approach To Understanding – And Here’s The Data!
One of the key ideas to WIN in the congested, competitive, crazy modern workplace is creating an AUTHENTIC NARRATIVE – this allows others to create memories (for themselves) about YOU. (This is what personal branding is about, BTW). When my … Continue reading 2015 Hiring: Your Resume Only Says “Over Here!” It Is Your Online / Social Presence That Allows Me To Say “YES!”
We are currently hiring a Communications Coordinator in Vancouver. I asked HR to see every resume and cover letter so that I have the full picture of the range of candidates. It is an interesting, fairly sobering process. There is … Continue reading Hotmail Hiring (Note: NOT Auditioning Male Strippers)
A couple of people have contacted me in the last weeks – New Year’s Resolutions? – enquiring about BrandBoards, about making a mark. Most excellent. I began the BrandBoard process a couple of years ago as a process of sharpening … Continue reading New Year’s Resolution: Brand Building!
One revelation of the process of researching and activating personal branding, for me, has been a turnaround in perspective about HELP.
I have always been loath to ask for help. Always thought I could do it myself (fool!). Tied up with this is an idea that the main reason to talk about yourself is to network hard and get into people’s rolodexes / contacts so that you can pick them off one by one and ask for the help. Some childhood stuff going on there probably, but here’s the Aha!

I don’t write much about my day job here on the blog, but not because I don’t like it. Far from it. Working with the smartest, most dedicated people is a great joy. It’s why I have been here for … Continue reading This Is Why I Work Here…
I was asked to write a few words on personal branding for an IABC mentoring program in which I participate. This is what I shared… I could rattle on about personal branding all night long (don’t let me corner you … Continue reading Personal Branding: A Call To Arms
Yesterday I wrote how this blog is a reflection of me, my set of still-forming ideas on how to change the world, my personal brand promise no less. It is a work in progress, but then so am I. If the TMWK blog is purest essence of “Jonathan”, then it stands to reason that it could become my resume / CV (especially if I get to talk about my BrandBoard, which gets me really excited…) Well, let’s test this out. It happens that once in a while I get recruiters dropping by on LinkedIn to say hi and to sense … Continue reading Ha! Let’s Test This “Know The Blog, Know Me” Idea
I have learned many things from writing the TMWK blog for a year, with more than 260 posts. Here are 10 revelations, so far. I want to separate out a key piece. Because the blog is me working out loud, sharing my knowledge, perspective, beliefs and opinions, it is the CLEAREST, most precise way you can know me (well, unless you KNOW me IRL). I say This Much We Know. I mean, this is who I am, how I move out into the world. If you read this blog, you know me, you know my motivations, my focus, my gift and … Continue reading This Much We Know? You Will Know Me From This Blog
