I like modern art. I occasionally buy cheap pieces to hang on the wall. I like its wry appraisal of the world and its commitment to ideas.

Modern art is not about being the most technically “talented.” It’s about big, bold ideas, about creative tension.

Modern art is an alive conversation between the artist and the viewer. It has entertainment value; it is in search of the zeitgeist.

The most common description of modern art is “I could do that.”

And the perfect riposte is “Yeah, but you didn’t.”
