Curious Kids: The Sacred YES.

I am one parent like millions of others who has been inspired, glavanized, motivated by my children and my responsibility as a parent.

Children have as much to teach as to learn, parents know that. I try my best to take it all in and reacquaint myself with my inner child. I know there is valuable learning for me, right here, right now.

Here are two quotes gleaned from the genius creative combinatorialist @brainpickings.

From Nietzsche‘s Thus Spake Zarathustra (free ebook):

The child is innocence and forgetting, a new beginning, a game, a self-propelled wheel, a first movement, a sacred ‘Yes.’ For the game of creation, my brothers, a sacred ‘Yes’ is needed: the spirit now wills his own will.

My kids definitely shout a sacred “Yes” every day. Long may it continue. They also whisper a sacred “Maybe” every day too…

From Mark Twain’s Advice to Little Girls:

If your mother tells you to do a thing, it is wrong to reply that you won’t. It is better and more becoming to intimate that you will do as she bids you, and then afterward act quietly in the matter according to the dictates of your best judgment.

Oh, good times.
