Dave Weinberger co-wrote the Cluetrain Manifesto, which introduced us to the network economy, through which disorganizers emerge from the hierarchy in their power.
Weinberger also wrote a book about a unified theory of the web called Small Pieces, Loosely Joined, but really, it is a book about society, about community.
It talks of hope and time and togetherness. It is about big things said simply.
“Small pieces, loosely joined” should be a mantra of the disorganizer.
We are trying to change the world when we do not necessarily have the decision-making power to do so.
- We need to experiment and iterate and create intimate victories.
- We remix existing ideas from our network.
- We do it with fellow travellers, from across the organization and from without.
- We learn together and from each other and spur each other on to greatness.
No massive, noble goal. Just small pieces, loosely joined.
This Much We Know.
