My Personal Brand: Intrapreneur

I do not pretend to be as sophisticated and revolutionary as the people featured in this Fast Co. article, but the idea of intrapreneurship is a powerful one – one that some colleagues and I are going to co-opt and drive at work. If I call myself an intrapreneur, it means I will drive change, sponsor creative tension, take action whenever I can, keep moving forward, keep challenging myself, my team, my organization to reach for more, to not settle, never settle. I think that is my definition, for now. More from Fast Company on Intrapreneurship: • The Rise Of The … Continue reading My Personal Brand: Intrapreneur

5 Tips For Taking Control Of Your Personal Brand

A neat little personal branding video from Dorie Clark – author or Reinventing You. Clark has 5 tips for taking control of your personal brand, and rather neatly, they map quite well to the TMWK Manifesto: Build skills <TMWK says…cultivate curiosity> Leverage points of difference <TMWK says…be F.R.E.S.H.> Develop a narrative <TMWK says… share story + narrative.> Reintroduce yourself <TMWK says… create hustle & flow.> Prove your worth <TMWK says…prepare for the Future of Work.> ←This Much We Know.→ Continue reading 5 Tips For Taking Control Of Your Personal Brand

Brand Thinking

The usual awesomesauce from @brainpickings – this time in reviewing Debiie Millman’s Brand Thinking. And, at TMWK, we do think about brand. We think brand is about defining how your particular genius: “This is why you need me” in the context of your employer conversation; “This is how I am my best” in relation to anyone understanding you better. As the article breaks down, there is much tension in the discussion of “brand” meaning. I do not disagree. Professionally, it is a term that, when injected into conversation, will equally have people leaning in and openly grimacing. As individuals (versus … Continue reading Brand Thinking

Vocal About Vocation

Another stellar review from @brainpickings about something close to the TMWK heart: Fulfilling Work. Such a concept is heavy at the heart of our approach to personal branding. If we can describe to others how we manifest our genius – who we are, the skills we offer – they can better help us in the direction of our vocation. As relayed by @brainpickings: Roman Krznaric, author of How to Find Fulfilling Work says; “a vocation is not something we find, it’s something we grow — and grow into.” He further defines vocation as “a career that not only gives you fulfillment — meaning, … Continue reading Vocal About Vocation

Sponsor Disruption 5: Show-Up

The last part of sponsoring disruption is to <Show-Up> differently. It is about showcasing how you have worked through <Model> <Upskill> <Bulk-Up> <Polemicize> and WOW – look at me now! Prove that it was all worthwhile. By now, you are working differently, networking more, have more knowledge at hand and beyond your fingertips. You are social. Hey, maybe even people like you more (no promises there). You made some bold promises and you delivered them. Now, take it to the proverbial NEXT LEVEL. Yes, it’s that time. The NEXT LEVEL You have moved through the disruption and are modelling the … Continue reading Sponsor Disruption 5: Show-Up

This Much We Know Manifesto

I have been writing about Manifestos…to live by, so I thought I had better stitch one together myself to see if it fits. It does, loosely for now. 1. Cultivate – Curiosity It all begins with curiosity. “Our number one value isn’t in any of the skills we have. It’s that we’re essentially curious.”  – Jim Coudal via @brainpickings Curiosity is the kick-start, the pre-requisite. It allows us to move forward, in the footsteps of children. John Pilger had it right: “…the first step is to engender an approach, enable the measurement of distances and walking toward. It is show … Continue reading This Much We Know Manifesto

The Future of Work: Three Sides of the Same Coin

The recent Deloitte Human Capital Trends 2013: Leading indicators report has some pretty juicy reflections on the coming Human Resources shitstorm as organizations try to deal with the changing workforce dynamic and narrative. The enterprise has to develop a new type of talent partner “that resides outside their four walls.”  The report further argues that organizations need “alignment of the talent brand and corporate brand” and has the usual HR / business focus areas to consider: creating a value proposition, leveraging social media, ensuring employees can fully contribute, communicating properly etc. Nothing earth-shattering, but good, wholesome stuff, like a focus on engagement: “There’s a … Continue reading The Future of Work: Three Sides of the Same Coin

“Yes!” Personal Branding: Planning Tools

To finish the thought, the discussion here has moved from the transliteration of a standard resume / CV to an automated visual version of the same; on to a deepened, hand-crafted version; then to a visual narrative reworking of your brand story. Now, we plan. As mentioned in the last post, moving beyond the resume as a chronological list of past experiences to make it something that lives and breathes – that is the interesting work at hand. Career Planning A couple of interesting online tools help us out here. Firstly, resum.up – a career roadmapping tool. Transparently, it place your … Continue reading “Yes!” Personal Branding: Planning Tools

“Yes!” Personal Branding: Narrative Infographics

This is where the personal branding rubber hits the road. Telling stories is as old as the hills; bizarrely, in our professional lives we are not used to telling stories about who we are, how we show up. We externalize everything. I mentioned before that our business profile becomes an out-of-body experience. At This Much We Know, visual narrative is our thang. We think holistically, we look for the greatness, your greatness, and we keep it F.R.E.S.H. So let’s consider the next iteration of visual personal branding: Automated online tools Resume infographics Narrative infographics Planning tools Narrative Infographics Infographics are … Continue reading “Yes!” Personal Branding: Narrative Infographics
