Hiring #TheNewBrian The Social Way

I am back in the hiring process, as a member of my team readies himself to spread his wings. Hiring makes me sanguine: the level of randomness of applicant – quality, fit, experience, resume – is extreme, implying a lack of due diligence from job seekers. I smell the scattergun fear of people trying any avenue, every avenue, to work, at anything. Resumes suck. I cannot feel the quality. So, we now ask people to present themselves, and even apply for roles, socially, in the open. If working out loud is healthy preparation for the future of work, then why … Continue reading Hiring #TheNewBrian The Social Way

The Resume Is Dead – Part 5

We are looking again at how resumes are being usurped by beautifully simple apps <like this and like this> and smart, forward-thinking individuals whose personal brands are showing the way to the future of (finding) work. I realised that, in a previous post on personal brand resumes, I had broken the link to the best example of an infogrpahic resume I had so far found. So, here it is again. The Resume Is Dead – Part 4

There are online tools aplenty to help you add sizzle to your standard resume / CV. Yesterday I shared Prezi’s new doo-hickey. Very nice. There are others. I previously wrote about tools such as re.vu and visualize.me as part of a personal branding series called “Getting to YES!” Creating sizzle – which really means balancing left-brain analytics (experience, details, explanation) with right-brain visuals (creativity, pictures, emotion) – is paramount in an increasingly visual, surprise-me world. The Future of Work: Three Sides of the Same Coin

The recent Deloitte Human Capital Trends 2013: Leading indicators report has some pretty juicy reflections on the coming Human Resources shitstorm as organizations try to deal with the changing workforce dynamic and narrative. The enterprise has to develop a new type of talent partner “that resides outside their four walls.”  The report further argues that organizations need “alignment of the talent brand and corporate brand” and has the usual HR / business focus areas to consider: creating a value proposition, leveraging social media, ensuring employees can fully contribute, communicating properly etc. Nothing earth-shattering, but good, wholesome stuff, like a focus on engagement: “There’s a … Continue reading The Future of Work: Three Sides of the Same Coin

“Yes!” Personal Branding: Online Tools

In the last post, I posited that we need to move beyond the traditional resume / CV. Why? Because we need some virality in our (extended) network in order to hook others’ interest. We need to think (more) visually because the world operates in an increasingly visual orientation; and people are visual thinkers (at least, 80% of us are.) Number data is processed via left-brained, analytical methods. Visual ideas, hooks are processed via right-brained, creatives means. If we can marry the language hemispheres of the brain, we can provide compelling data and stories to our audience. We can stand out … Continue reading “Yes!” Personal Branding: Online Tools
